Its reasonable resemblance to the shape of North America gives its name to the NGC 7000 nebula. It is an interstellar hydrogen cloud that glows red due to ionization produced by radiation from a nearby star, yet to be determined. It is located on the equator of the Milky Way, presumably about 1800 light years away from us, and the number of stars present in the field of view is overwhelming.
