ALOVECIENCIA

Solar observation

Workshop: 21st June 2025, 10:00, Beside Library of Alovera.

This activity will be driven by Doctors José Luis F. Cuñado and Pablo Molina.

This activity will consist of live solar observation using specialized equipment (solar telescopes) operated by our scientists at Plus Ultra-Orionis. We will be able to observe the solar photosphere in the visible range, and also details of the chromosphere using narrowband filters, such as H-alpha (which allows for high contrast in the red). We will also use a spectroscope to observe the characteristic absorption lines of elements present in the solar atmosphere, such as helium. All of this will be explained during the activity so that we understand what we are seeing and how we are able to see it (structure of the sun, observational techniques using filters, spectroscopy, etc.).

La actividad

VIDEO of the activity During the activity, attendees were able to see the equipment used for solar observation.

Sheltered from the intense June heat, inside the library's auditorium, they were able to watch live images captured by equipment set up on the street. In this way, Dr. José Luis F. Cuñado, using educational materials in conjunction with the real-time images, explained what was being observed: from sunspots, pores, beaches, and granulation, to solar flares, spicules, and other characteristic solar phenomena.
