ALOVECIENCIA

Solar observation

Outdoor activity, 14th February 2024, 10:00h, Meeting point: Ball in front of the Alovera Library.

We meet in Alovera for a solar observation!!!.

This activity will consist of observing the sun, as long as weather conditions allow it (clear sky) !!!. Several telescopes will be used for observation: a refracting telescope will allow the observation of sunspots in broadband (several wavelengths), another telescope will allow observation in narrow band, at the wavelength of the 3-2 jump of hydrogen (Hα ), hence details of solar chromosphere will be accessinble. Finally, an observation will be made through a coronagraph in order to understand what type of device this is and what things can be seen with it... even though it will be quite difficult to distinguish the corona from scattered light at our altitudes. For security reasons, DIRECT VISION WILL NOT BE USED through the telescopes, but the image will be shown through the camera. In addition, a series of important notions will be given about the precautions that must always be taken with our star.
