ALOVECIENCIA

Nanoscopy: discovering new biology at the nanoscale

Talk: 29th March 2024, 19:00, Conference Hall/Library of Alovera.

This talk will be given by Doctor Cristina Flors (IMDEA nanociencia)

More than a century has passed since scientist Ernst Abbe established the so called diffraction limit in the quality of images that can be obtained through an optical microscope. Diffraction causes small details in the image to appear blurry, that is, they cannot be resolved. In this talk Cristina Flors, PhD in Chemistry who leads the Advanced Nanoscopy group at IMDEA Nanoscience, will show how new microscopy techniques are capable of overcoming the diffraction limit, allowing to observe biological structures at the nanoscale. Some discoveries in Biology facilitated by this technique will also be presented. In addition, Dra. Flors will talk about her professional career, developed in the boundary between Chemistry, Physics and Biology. This will be a great opportunity for young students, who will learn important facts and guides for their future. Bring your questions for Dra. Flors !!!

Dra. Cristina Flors will split the talk into two stages. First she will talk about the different microscopy techniques that are used in her group, as well as the works they are currently doing, and then she will give a vision of her professional career that will be useful for those who are at a decission point for their future studies.
