ALOVECIENCIA

Renewable energy: Hydrogen

Talk: 30th January 2025, 19:00, Conference Hall/Library of Alovera.

This talk will be given by Doctor Fabrice Leardini, Departament of Materials at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Grupo de Materiales de Interés en Energías Renovables - MIRE)

The use of hydrogen as an energy vector in the exploitation of renewable energies involves the use of electrolysis or photoelectrolysis of water for its generation. In the MIRE group at the UAM we investigate the preparation and characterization of new materials for use as electrodes or photoelectrodes for obtaining hydrogen. In this seminar, the most recent advances of our group in this field will be discussed, as well as current and future work perspectives.

Día de la charla

Professor Fabrice Leardini during one of the explanations on the difference between consumption period and generation period, and the importance of storing energy during generation period for later use during peak consumption periods. Hydrogen is presented as a storage option: it is generated from water by electrolysis during peak electricity generation periods, and is reused by converting it back into water and electricity in an electrolytic cell during consumption period. Real experiments were performed that illustrated this electricity+water to hydrogen and back to electricity+water cycle.
