Mini exibition "Dismantling laser"

From 21st March to 212st April 2024, Exibition Hall/Library of Alovera.

In parallel with the talk on lásers by Pablo (March 21), we have set up a mini exhibition dedicated to lasers, entitle "Dismantling laser". The exhibition was inaugurated together with Mercedes García Granizo, director of the Alovera library, and it will be on display at the Alovera Library until April 30 (2024). All Tuesdays during the exhibition period José Luis F. Cuñado will be available at the exhibition hall, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to answer questions and explain details. He will also bring some simple experiments so that those who were unable to attend Pablo's talk will have a second opportunity to approach the fascinating world of laser light. This "mini-exhibition" consists of a display case with some of the most common types of lasers (gas lasers and solid-state lasers), and examples of everyday devices in which we can find them. As a curiosity, we have added a small book published at the dawn of the use of lasers for music reproduction, and an "exploded" compact disc (the latter is a modern one, but it is practically the same construction as in the early 80s). The devices on display are no longer in use and have been discarded for research. This make them ideal for dismantling and displaying to the public. Some constructive elements are also displayed, such as artificially grown crystals used in solid state laser, or optical elements for the resonant cavity. Accompanying the display case, we have placed three explanatory panels describing laser concepts, types and applications, so that the visitors will better understand what is on display.
