Visit to TJ-II - National Fusion Laboratory - CIEMAT

Excurson: 21st April 2025, 8:30, Bus beside Library of Alovera.

The visit will be guided by Isabel García Cortes and Alejandro Moroño, Doctores en el Laboratorio Nacional de Fusión - CIEMAT.

Our activity today is a visit aimed at learning about Spainish research and participation in the development of Fusion Energy. At National Fusion Laboratory at CIEMAT is located the TJ-II: a device for studying plasma physics for fusion energy research. It is a Stellarator-type machine, which we will visit, in addition to a Van de Graaff accelerator and the TJ-II control room. You can download the visit brochure from the link below.

The Visit

The visit started at the Van dee Graaff facility, where Dr. Alejandro Moroño explained details on this singular electron accelerator: one that was directly built by Van dee Graaff's own company. The machine is close to its 75 years old and it is in perfect working conditions.

The visit continued in the TJ-II control room, where Dr. Isabel García Cortés gave some introductory concepts on fusion and plasma physics.

We then proceeded to the TJ-II experimental hall, where the Stellerator device is located, with all its side devices and diagnostics. Isabel stoped in many of the singular devices used for the research in plasma physics.

Finally, we enjoy a group picture and a coffe at "El Chiringuito".
